"Vineyards of the Danube" with Incantato Leisure Tours on the MS Mozart

CRUISE-ONLY PROGRAM Itinerary

DAY 1 Saturday, October 20, 2012
Welcome aboard the MS Mozart!

Sandra and Ted from Incantato Leisure Tours welcome you aboard the MS Dertour Mozart, alongside the fantastic crew. Your luggage will be brought to your stateroom while you sip on your welcome glass of Champagne. Take a private tour of the ship, have a snack and relax in the Don Giovanni panorama bar & lounge prior to sail-away. A sumptuous four course welcome dinner awaits you this evening as you set sail for Austria. As an Incantato guest, you may enjoy your complimentary first glass of typical local wine with dinner on board every night.

DAY 2 Sunday, October 21
Wachau Valley and Melk Abbey

Wake up in one of the most beautiful valleys in Austria, the Wachau, named a UNESCO world heritage site for its unique cultural landscape. This stunning stretch of the Danube Valley has been used principally for the cultivation of wines since prehistoric times. You may choose to visit the famous Melk Abbey or just stroll around town prior to a special Incantato tasting of local wine and other spirits. Return to the Mozart for lunch and to continue the journey. Why not take a dip in the pool, get a massage in the Spa or make new friends at happy hour on the sundeck? Tonight’s dinner selections will already give you a taste of Hungary, which awaits you tomorrow. After another gourmet dinner, and once the sun sets over the Danube, your floating hotel will start the journey through Slovakia, where seeing Bratislava by night from the water is a very special treat. Some of you may even want to experience the sunset sail-away from the rooftop as you bid farewell to Austria.

DAY 3 Monday, October 22
Hello Hungary: Esztergom and Budapest

Enjoy breakfast in yet another country, beautiful Hungary. Take a stroll through the ancient capital city of Esztergom with its stunning Cathedral, then arrive in the present capital city of Budapest around lunchtime. Also known as the Paris of the East, Budapest features all the amenities of a metropolis thriving with culture, a rich history and friendly people. You can choose to go on a guided city sightseeing tour or just explore the combined cities of Buda and Pest on your own. The ship is docked just minutes away from many attractions and shops, including the famous Market Hall, Liberty Bridge and pedestrian zone. After dinner, the MS Mozart takes you on a „Lights of Budapest“ cruise and Incantato invites you to a special reception on deck featuring Hungarian drink specialties.

DAY 4 Tuesday, October 23
Dolce Vita Day in Budapest

There is so much to see and do in Budapest that you will enjoy having another full day here. We recommend taking a stroll through the nearby historical Market Hall featuring hundreds of food vendors alongside traditional artisan handicraft shops. An optional excursion to an Estate in the countryside (Puszta) is also offered. Some of you may also want to visit one of the thermal spas or simply relax. In the evening, bid farewell to Hungary and set sail for Slovakia while enjoying your floating hotel.

DAY 5 Wednesday, October 24
Welcome to Slovakia: Bratislava at leisure

Unlike most other cruises, you won‘t feel rushed on the Mozart as you are given more time at exciting stops such as Slovakia‘s capital city of Bratislava. After an orientation tour of the historical city center, a special Slovakian beer tasting awaits the Incantato group. Learn about and taste the two traditional types from various local breweries.
Afterward, you have ample time to shop, explore and even get a feeling of Bratislava nightlife since you don‘t have to be back aboard the ship until after 10 pm for sail-away back towards Austria.

DAY 6 Thursday, October 25
Willkommen in Wien: Vienna in-depth

You will wake up in Austria‘s capital city of Vienna or Wien, as the locals say in German. If you are a first time visitor, then we recommend going on the optional guided city tour in the morning. Alternatively, explore the historical center with your Incantato host on a leisurely walk ending at the famous Cafe Sacher. Some of you may want to visit museums, shop or just people watch near the famous Stephansdom or St. Stephen's Cathedral. Again, you will have the full day and most of the evening in port to take full advantage of the many attractions Vienna has to offer.

DAY 7 Friday, October 26
Beautiful Danube Valley

Visit the picturesque town of Krems where the Mozart is docked until lunch. Taste some of the local products such as Marmelade or Schnapps made from the indigenous Marille, an Austrian apricot, which the region is most famous for. You also have the option of embarking on the excursions to Goettweig Abbey and the riverside town of Duernstein. Today will feature not only one, but two wine-tastings, first off the ship in Krems, and then aboard your floating hotel as the journey continues again along the most scenic part of the Danube towards Passau. A gala farewell dinner awaits you in the ship restaurant followed by entertainment in the panorama lounge.

DAY 8 Saturday, October 27
Auf Wiedersehen MS Mozart

Prior to bidding farewell to the MS Mozart, enjoy one last breakfast aboard the ship as you sail back to Germany and prepare for disembarking in Passau.

La Comida Española

While traveling in Spain, there might be some types of food that you have not encountered before. Especially the typical Spanish ‘Tapas’, a wide assortment of appetizers or snacks, offer up a great variety of Spanish dishes and foods. Tapas may be cold or warm and were designed to encourage conversation while eating because people do not have to focus upon an entire meal.

Some of the most typical and essential ingredients for any meal are chorizo (spicy sausage),
jamón iberico (Iberian ham) and jamón serrano (cured ham). Ham is cherished in Spain as as much champagne is in France. The process of curing it takes a couple of years. Chorizo is a type of spicy sausage, either sliced thinly and served cold on bread or cut into chunks and cooked.

Another extremely typical Tapas dish and Spain’s very own fast food are patatas bravas. They are chopped, fried potatoes (basically potato wedges) that are covered either in a very spicy tomato sauce or a mayonnaise olive oil garlic sauce.

Speaking of fast food, another one of Spain’s favorites is the tortilla española. The plain ones are simply made with just eggs, potatoes and onions, cooked together in an omelet-type combination, then cut into pie slices and served. Variations include shrimp cooked inside or cheese melted on top.

The last dish often comes as a bit of a shock to people. It looks likes tomato soup, but careful - it is cold! This typical appetizer is a mixture of pureed tomatoes, cucumbers and a few other ingredients, topped with croutons. If you are traveling in
southern Spain, however, be sure to watch out for salmorejo on restaurant menus. This is the regional variation of Gazpacho and a bit more flavorful. A combination of tomatoes, bread, oil, garlic and vinegar, salmorejo is much thicker than Gazpacho because it includes more bread. It is also typically served with diced jamón serrano and diced hard-boiled eggs on top.

Crista’s personal favorites include the tortilla española and the salmorejo. Check out the recipe linked to the tortilla española to try this dish at home. Yum!
